PPACA Remains the Law of the Land

Washington D.C.

Finding that there were not enough votes to pass the American Health Care Act in the House of Representatives, the Republicans have shelved the legislation and will proceed with other legislative efforts.

What does this mean for employers and individuals?  The Affordable Care Act (also known as PPACA, ACA, and Obamacare) will remain the law of the land until further notice.  A very brief recap of some of the requirements:

  1. Most plans must meet defined parameters as it relates to waiting periods, covered benefits and actuarial values.
  2. Individuals must maintain at least Minimum Essential Coverage or they may be subjected to additional tax penalties.
  3. Applicable Large Employers must either offer Affordable, Minimum Value coverage to their full-time employees or they may be subject to additional tax penalties.
  4. Applicable Large Employers must report on their offers of coverage to employees by way of the 1094-C and 1095-C forms

The PPACA was over 2,000 pages, and has spawned hundreds of thousands of pages of regulations.  This very brief post is not comprehensive, but we have the knowledge, tools, and expertise to help you continue your compliance efforts, or restart them if compliance had fallen off in hopes that the law would be repealed.
